Sawai’s pharmaceutical products are ourselves

Engraving on our hearts the heavy responsibility borne by a pharmaceutical company intimately concerned with human life, and embracing a profound reverence for patients’ health and lifestyles, we at Sawai, the company that puts patients first, have formulated this Code of Conduct according to our belief that Sawai’s pharmaceutical products are ourselves.


Chapter 1: Alongside patients

  1. Creating medicinal products that will please patients
    Taking pride in our work, and with a sense of responsibility, we, as medical professionals, will seek advice widely and demonstrate creativity in order to produce pharmaceutical products that will genuinely please patients.

  2. Research and development from the patients’ viewpoint
    We will take seriously the opinions expressed by clinical professionals, taking aspects such as quality of life and ease of administration into consideration in the endeavor to undertake research and development from the patients’ viewpoint.

  3. Building our brand by prioritizing quality and safety
    We will persist in our policy of not putting products on the market if there are any doubts about their quality, and will endeavor to build our brand by prioritizing quality and safety.

  4. Dealing sincerely with patients
    We understand inquiries as being in themselves an important interface with patients, and will not only respond to them sincerely but also be proactive in expanding opportunities for communication with patients.

  5. Advertising with integrity
    We will base our advertisements on data that are factual and fair, avoiding problematic areas such as expressions that might cause misunderstanding and hyperbole, and acting with integrity to offer beneficial information.

  6. Appropriate management of personal information
    We will produce regulations for handling personal and customer information obtained in the course of our overall corporate activities, and manage them rigorously.

Chapter 2: Alongside medical professionals

  1. Pharmaceutical product development inspired by clinical professionals
    We will visit clinical professionals, and through communication with high awareness of the issues involved will ensure that this leads to the development of pharmaceutical products that are convenient, easy to use and dispense, and high quality.

  2. Appropriate provision of information
    We will provide information appropriately regarding quality, efficacy, and safety, and by swiftly passing on the results of the gathering, analysis, and evaluation of post-marketing information will continue to be an organization that is of service to medical professionals.

  3. Assurance of reliability of supply
    By enhancing our information sharing and systems of cooperation with medical professionals and business partners, we will endeavor to offer a sure and reliable supply of pharmaceutical products of high quality and safety to medical professionals.

  4. Building relationships of trust
    We will strive to improve our product development, provision of information, and reliability of supply, and will not only respond to any problems swiftly and in good faith, but will also work to build relationships of trust with medical professionals by deepening their understanding of the content of Sawai’s business.

    We will maintain reasonable, clean relationships with business partners, avoiding words and actions that might be subject to suspicion and consistently engaging in fair, transparent transactions.

    To respond flexibly to the constantly changing business environment and technological innovation, we will pursue swift decision-making, alert action, and efficiency throughout our entire organization.

    In addition to utilizing the company’s human and material resources to the fullest extent, we will manage these resources appropriately and handle them carefully to avoid any loss.

    We will manage our finances based on rational risk management, limiting loans and investments to those for which cautious, appropriate procedures have been completed, and will not engage in speculative transactions.

    We will hold annual shareholders’ meetings to offer opportunities for open communication with shareholders and manage the company appropriately, and will endeavor to engage in timely and appropriate information disclosure and investor relations (IR) activities on an everyday basis.

  7. Crisis response
    We will establish management and public relations systems to be used when a crisis occurs, and in the event that a problem arises we will endeavor to prevent the occurrence of any damage and the lowering of our brand image, by means of swift, appropriate reporting to departments concerned both within and outside the company.

Chapter 6: Alongside society at large

  1. Benefiting society at large
    Based on our view that the widespread use of generic pharmaceutical products contributes to the health of members of the public and to government finances, we, as a leading company, will work to actively increase awareness of this issue.

  2. Integration with society at large
    As a good corporate citizen, we will work to be integrated into the local community, and will redouble our efforts to be accepted by society by such means as supporting our employees’ activities for the benefit of society.

  3. Respect for human rights
    We will respect fundamental human rights, opposing all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality, disability, or any other factor, and will not discriminate for reasons of philosophy or political opinion.

  4. Elimination of antisocial forces
    We will communicate with the police and other related government organizations concerning antisocial forces or groups that pose a threat to the order or safety of civil society, and will take a resolute stand against them.

  5. Response to national agencies and political funding/donations
    While developing cooperative relationships with government agencies, we will deal with them in a healthy, transparent, and reasonable manner, and will not offer hospitality, gifts, or any form of payoff to government employees. We will comply with applicable legislation and company regulations concerning political funding and donations, and will act with strict neutrality.

Chapter 7: Alongside the global environment

  1. Environmental preservation
    We will be aware of the true impact of our corporate activities on the environment, and will collaborate with local communities and society at large in our endeavor to preserve the global environment.

  2. Consideration of environmental impact
    By proactively promoting the “3Rs” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), we will work to alleviate our environmental burden with the goal of becoming an environmentally friendly company.

Chapter 8: Promotional Framework

  1. Priority of Code of Conduct
    The Sawai Code of Conduct indicates in practical terms what employees should and should not do to implement the corporate philosophy when carrying out their work.

  2. Leadership by top management
    All members of top management shall exhibit leadership in spreading the Code of Conduct throughout the company, and shall endeavor to set an example of its implementation themselves.

  3. Responsible board members and departments
    Board members and departments shall be appointed to spread the Corporate Philosophy and Code of Conduct throughout the company and to revise them.

  4. Staff members responsible for promoting Corporate Philosophy and Code of Conduct in each department
    Each department shall appoint a staff member responsible for promoting the spread of the Corporate Philosophy and the Code of Conduct, who shall attend seminars, promote activities for their spread, and report regularly on the results.

  5. Establishment of an advice desk
    We will establish an advice desk for queries concerning corporate ethics, and will attempt to respond appropriately. We will maintain the privacy of inquirers, and as a company will ensure the presence of fair advisors.
